Introduction to Great Sword

In Monster Hunter Wilds, there are various weapons, each with its own styles and gameplay mechanics, along with different approaches to gear setups. Below is a reference for general gear setups for various weapons shared by “Rain Sauce”, which we hope will be helpful for everyone.

Important Skills and Gear Setup Ideas

The skills in this game are categorized into weapon skills and armor skills, and the gems correspond to either weapon or armor, and they cannot be mixed. Many powerful damage skills can only be placed in a few positions on the weapon, while the damage skills available on armor are also somewhat limited. Additionally, each weapon inherently has certain skills that are highly compatible with the weapon itself. If you choose to use a particular weapon, it might change your overall gear setup strategy based on the skills that come with it, and it will also influence the weapon options within certain weapon styles.

Recommended Gear Setup

For the Great Sword, a balance between attack speed and damage output is crucial. Aim to focus on skills that enhance your charging attacks and improve your defensive capabilities.

技能名稱 效果
攻擊提升 增加傷害輸出
耐力消耗減少 提高耐力管理效率

Conclusion

When approaching battles in Monster Hunter Wilds with the Great Sword, always consider your skill synergy and gear configuration to maximize your efficiency. Happy hunting!

Prioritizing Skills for Weapon Efficiency in Monster Hunter Wilds

Most weapons still primarily focus on critical skills; however, in this game, the critical skill has been weakened compared to previous installments. Therefore, rather than aiming for a complete 100% critical rate, the goal shifts to prioritizing cost-effective critical skills. If the critical hit rate isn't sufficiently high, enhancing damage output should take precedence.

First, let's discuss some essential critical skills:

Weakness Exploit: Unlike previous games, which required only 3 levels for a 50% critical chance, this installment has drastically reduced this requirement to 5 levels, with a critical bonus decline to 30%. (Wound critical chance remains at 50%). Nonetheless, this is still the highest priority critical skill for most weapons. The Weakness Exploit charm currently achieves level 2, so it can be crafted as soon as possible.

Spirit Keen: Enhancing Critical Hits

The Spirit Keen skill activates after your stamina is full for a certain period, providing a 30-point boost to critical hits. This is particularly effective for weapons that do not consume much stamina. Additionally, the two-piece armor set from Guard Lurker Dragon grants a set bonus called Endless Energy, which adds a small stamina bar outside of the main stamina gauge. When dodging, this additional stamina will be consumed first, allowing you to maintain a full stamina bar over the long term and consistently utilize the benefits of Spirit Keen! However, this skill may not be suitable for weapons that often exhaust stamina, such as dual blades and bows.

Black Decomposition Dragon: Managing Frenzy Infection

The two-piece armor set from the Black Decomposition Dragon comes with a set bonus that activates Frenzy Infection after engaging with large monsters. If you continuously attack the monster before the infection kicks in, you can overcome it and gain bonuses to attack and critical rate. The critical rate bonus is 15 points, and if you equip Realm of No Return at level 3, you will gain an additional 10 points, for a total of 25 points. This is a highly effective critical hit skill.

Skill Overview for Enhanced Damage in Monster Hunter Wilds

In Monster Hunter Wilds, there are several key skills that can significantly boost your performance during battles. Here’s a breakdown of some of the most effective skills to consider:

Offensive Skills

Offense: This skill increases your attack and critical hit rate when the enemy is in an abnormal state (poison or paralysis). However, since the paralysis duration is quite short, it is generally not worth considering this skill. On the other hand, the poison duration is decent, and there is a strengthening skill that extends it by 1.2 times; this can be a nice damage boost and critical hit skill against monsters that are vulnerable to poison.

Combo: This skill triggers with every weapon hit and enhances effects after five hits. It provides a very stable increase in attack power, making it more cost-effective than directly adding attack levels. Additionally, this is a defense skill that requires at least level one.

Counterattack: After being knocked back by a monster, this skill boosts your attack power for a certain period. The "knockback" here does not necessarily mean you have to be physically knocked away; it applies to any monster attack that can hit you. If you are wearing the Unmoving Armor and take a hit, it can still trigger this skill. Similarly, if you use a Great Sword's shoulder charge to negate a knockback, it can also activate. In fact, you can easily get knocked back in this game. If you find yourself frequently taking hits, consider equipping this skill.

Great Sword Users

This section is dedicated to players who prefer the Great Sword in Monster Hunter Wilds. Understanding and utilizing skills effectively can mean the difference between victory and defeat.

Great Sword Build

This great sword build is almost suitable for most weapons that can utilize the Spirit Boost mechanic. You can easily modify this template to fit your needs. It works well with weapons like dual blades, hunting horn, switch axe, and even lance.

The two-piece pieces of the Thunderlord set primarily provide additional stamina, ensuring that your stamina is always full to trigger the Spirit Boost's 30% critical strike rate. After overcoming the Frenzy Disease, you gain an extra 25 points, coupled with a 30% critical strike from Weakness Exploit, guaranteeing a total of 85% critical chance. Additionally, the Challenger skill offers an increase in critical chance and attack power.

Long Sword

The Long Sword requires Sword Sheathing Level 3, meaning you'll need three Level 1 slots. As such, the build for the great sword can be slightly modified for the Long Sword. Moreover, the Long Sword consumes a significant amount of stamina when performing the Spirit Slash, making the compatibility with the Spirit Boost somewhat lower. You may consider not using it, but if you do, pairing it with the Feline Insurance Meal and the 1-level Stamina Surge skill is recommended.

Choosing Your Monster: Fire Dragon, Frost Peak Dragon, or Thunder Lord Dragon

You can choose from Fire Dragon, Frost Peak Dragon, or Thunder Lord Dragon depending on your jewel situation. For weapons, it's generally advisable to ensure level 5 Critical Boost (which requires 3+2 slots). If you have a leftover 3-slot, you might consider adding Mastery 3.

Hunting Horn Build Image

Hunting Horn Overview

The Hunting Horn has undergone significant changes and has been greatly enhanced! Everyone must try out my favorite weapon!

The Hunting Horn can utilize similar equipment to the Great Sword mentioned above. However, there is a special hunting horn called the Peach Fur Beast Horn. Its melody enhances critical hits and attack power, with a critical bonus of up to 25 points! The melodies primarily provide defense and healing!

Given these characteristics, I've specially designed a build for this horn that maximizes critical hits without any weaknesses!

Firstly, we have:

技能 會心加成
精神抖擻 30
克服狂龍 25
挑戰者 15
響玉 25
武器自帶 5

This results in a total of 100 critical hits, making it a perfect build!

Monster Hunter Wilds: Hunting Horn Techniques

In this game, the Hunting Horn can be played while attacking. When attacking, try to recover health【medium】 as much as possible. By using melodies + stacking, you can activate two healing instances, which can recover approximately 60 health. Therefore, I considered adding skills to avoid damage.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Gunlance Strategies

The Gunlance in this game offers a highly effective and straightforward playstyle. Its shelling damage ignores target's meat quality, making it particularly powerful. However, since cannon fire does not benefit from critical hits but only attack boosts, the main focus of the Gunlance skills should be on stacking attack power.

A simple method is to use a Fury Claw set for hitting the combo 5, and the set skill can enhance the effectiveness of the combo skill, further increasing your damage output. Currently, there are not many other especially useful damage output skills, so considering Earplugs for added safe output would be beneficial. As of now, only the Frostfang and the Kairo can roar, while other monsters only require level 2 Earplugs to be effectively countered.

Any remaining slots can be freely utilized.

Charged Light Bowgun

The Charged Light Bowgun is incredibly comfortable to use, making it an excellent go-to weapon for players. The rapid reload of the charged ammo is notably quick. In this game, you can perform a sliding shot in rapid-fire mode, which is a smooth experience. To do this, press the shoot and dodge buttons simultaneously while in rapid-fire mode. Alternatively, you can repeatedly tap the shoot button while dodging. Keep in mind that the sliding shot consumes stamina, so the build doesn't utilize "Spirit Surge." When sliding shotting, the camera can become quite shaky, so if you dislike the sliding mechanic, consider using regular rapid-fire mode, allowing you to equip "Spirit Surge" again.

Additionally, there's a powerful follow-up shot in this game that lets one round of ammo shoot multiple times and increases damage; however, the recoil can be slightly longer, so timing is crucial. Note that the powerful follow-up shot can only be performed after a regular shot. In rapid-fire mode, you cannot perform a follow-up shot directly after a sliding shot. Thus, if you want to follow up during rapid-fire, you will need to fire a regular shot first, and you must ensure you have at least two rounds of ammo available!

Optimal Equipment Choices

For parts, choose Piercing Extension and Rapid Fire Efficiency. You can select special ammo based on your preference. Below is the recommended equipment setup:

Weapon Selection

The weapons to consider are Raging Thunder, Furious Blaze, and Fierce Claw. Out of these, Raging Thunder is the best option as it can also be used for lightning attribute rapid fire. Furious Blaze is easier to craft and suitable for early-game use. Although the Fierce Claw has a piercing ammo level of 2, it offers a decent magazine capacity. The damage for level 2 and 3 ammo is the same, with level 2 firing 7 hits and level 3 firing 9 hits.

Recommended Skills

Prioritize Initial Fire Boost for ammo skills. This skill enhances projectile distance and improves shooting feel. If you can control the distance accurately, you might consider switching to Piercing 3 or Critical Boost 3. Initial Fire Boost increases reload speed and the power of the first shot. For the remaining slots, consider Power Level 4 or Special Ammo Boost.

Equipment Setup

The setup here uses Raging Thunder, which comes with Initial Fire Boost 2, so you only need to add a gem for one additional boost. For the remaining skills, I've chosen Ammunition 3 and Power Level 4. Power Level 4 can also be replaced with Critical Boost or Special Ammo skills.

If you prefer not to use the slide-and-shoot technique, you can switch to the Lightning Elder Dragon hands and add Spirit Boost 3.
